Without our more than 200 volunteers, Rhode Island Free Clinic would not be the place it is today. Volunteers see patients. Volunteers run patient workshops and healthy cooking demonstrations. Volunteers schedule services and patient visits, coordinate prescriptions, obtain outside lab and social services as needed. Volunteers, in fact, are responsible for a great majority of the good that’s done at Rhode Island Free Clinic. Rhode Island Free Clinic volunteers come from all walks of life. Most are employed in full-time positions in large and small medical practices and companies throughout Rhode Island. Some are Board Certified physicians, DOs, and licensed nurses and psychologists. Some are area students working to become tomorrow’s doctors, nurses, and clinicians. Some are retired professionals. However, not all of our volunteers are affiliated with the medical profession. In fact, many of our support and administrative volunteers hail from diverse professions that range from marine surveyor and computer programmer to retired data entry clerk and human resources professional. No matter where they come from or how they come to us, they all bring value to the patient experience. All are qualified, highly competent individuals committed to providing care or supporting Free Clinic efforts according to their assigned schedule, Monday through Friday, in the capacity they serve best.
