Primary Care Clinic
The Primary Care Clinic is the gateway to Rhode Island Free Clinic services. If you have a cold or infection, if you suffer from a chronic health problem, such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, or high cholesterol, this is where you receive medical attention. The Primary Care Clinic is open to new patients once a month and tends to the ongoing needs of our existing patient base every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6:00 to 9:00.

Here is where volunteer physicians and nurse practitioners provide initial contact, diagnosis, and treatment for some 1,600+ current primary care clinic patients. Once you’ve been diagnosed, this is where you also receive ongoing medical attention, including basic follow-up treatment, health supervision, management of chronic conditions, preventive health services, and referrals for outside specialty care as appropriate.

Larry D.
Patient since 2002

Age 62
Surviving chronic health problems and no health insurance

Larry worked all his life. But the pain and limited range of motion caused by an earlier lower back, hip and knee injury made holding down a full time job increasingly difficult, especially with age. Eventually unable to work and ineligible for disability compensation, Larry had no choice but to move in with his daughter; he couldn't afford to live alone. Never mind, afford health insurance. Fortunately, he doesn't need it to receive primary care services and specialized care for high blood pressure and diabetes at the Free Clinic.
