While it's true that most of Rhode Island Free Clinic's services are provided with the generous help of highly dedicated volunteers, the clinic operates with a handful of paid staff. The clinic's paid positions include an executive director, a full-time clinic manager, VISTA clinic coordinator, VISTA media relations/communications coordinator, VISTA research coordinator, secretary, full-time medical assistant, and a part-time, grant-funded data project manager. These individuals are the backbone of Rhode Island Free Clinic. Their efforts provide for the continuity and smooth functioning of its day-to-day activities. Once a month, the Rhode Island Free Clinic Board of Directors meets to discuss and guide clinic decisions and activities. True to Free Clinic form, none of the Board members is compensated for the time devoted; Board activity, too, is a volunteer effort. Together the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers advocate on behalf of the uninsured, raising awareness of the issue locally and nationally. |
